Canada PNP

Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) allows Canadian provinces and territories to nominate individuals who wish to immigrate to Canada and who are interested in settling in a particular province. 

There are 2 pathways to apply under the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) 

1. Express Entry Pathway- Provincial nominations issued under these Express Entry-aligned streams are known as ‘enhanced nominations’. The benefits of enhanced PNP streams are that they award Express Entry candidates an additional 600 Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points, which guarantee they will receive a permanent residence invitation under Express Entry. 
2. Direct Stream- The other way to obtain permanent residence through the PNP is under a ‘base’ stream. Here, you apply to a PNP stream directly and once you obtain a provincial nomination, the federal government will process your permanent residence application.

There are more than 80 provincial immigration streams, below are the most common and sort after programs-

Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP)- Through the OINP, Ontario nominates foreign workers, international students, business owners or entrepreneurs who have the skills, experience, education and intent to settle in the province as permanent residents.

Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP)- Alberta’s provincial immigration program consists of three streams: The Alberta Opportunity Stream, the Alberta Express Entry Stream, and the Self-Employed Farmer Stream. 

Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP)- The SINP is Saskatchewan’s dedicated immigration program for the selection and nomination of eligible foreign nationals through various pathways, including its leading International Skilled Worker: Express Entry and Occupation In-Demand categories.

British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP)- The BC PNP consists of the Skills Immigration, Express Entry BC and Entrepreneur Immigration Streams.

Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP)- Manitoba’s provincial immigration program is comprises of streams designed to nominate skilled workers and their families who wish to live and work in the province permanently.

New Brunswick Provincial Nominee Program (NBPNP)- The NBPNP is New Brunswick’s provincial immigration program with streams targeting entrepreneurs, international graduates, skilled workers with employer support and skilled workers in the federal government’s Express Entry selection system.

Apart from the above Canada has introduced some Pilot Programs that helps nominate individuals who will migrate and live in their Regions to fill the needs of local employers and communities.

Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot

The Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP) is community-driven, which means participating communities take the lead in attracting new immigrants and matching them with local job vacancies, promoting a welcoming community, and connecting newcomers to established members of the community and local settlement services.

The following 11 communities are participating in the pilot: 

• North Bay, Ontario
• Sudbury, Ontario
• Timmins, Ontario
• Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario
• Thunder Bay, Ontario
• Brandon, Manitoba
• Altona/Rhineland, Manitoba
• Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan
• Claresholm, Alberta
• Vernon, British Columbia
• West Kootenay (Trail, Castlegar, Rossland, Nelson), British Columbia

Eligibility Requirements for candidates

In order to be considered for the RNIP, potential candidates must meet the following federal criteria as well as requirements established by the participating community where they are hoping to settle.

The federal criteria are:

• Have a recommendation from one of the designated communities.
• Have one year of continuous work experience in the past three years (a minimum of 1,560 hours).
  OR
• Have graduated from a publicly funded post-secondary institution in the recommending community.
• Have a genuine job offer to work in one of the designated communities.
• Meet the language threshold for the NOC skill type/level of the job being offered.
• Have sufficient funds to settle and support themselves and their family in the community.
• Have an intention to live in the community.

Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program (AIPP)

The Atlantic Immigration Pilot is a fast-track immigration program that allows employers in Canada’s four Atlantic provinces — Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador and Prince Edward Island — to hire foreign nationals for jobs they haven’t been able to fill locally.

The three-year pilot program allows designated local employers to identify, recruit and retain global talent. 

The Atlantic Immigration Pilot is an employer-driven program that facilitates the hiring of foreign workers. All principal applicants arriving in Canada under the pilot program must have a job offer from a designated employer and an individualized settlement plan for themselves and their family.

Canada Agri-Food Immigration Pilot

Canada’s Agriculture and Agri-Food industry is a vital component of the Canadian economy and contributes more than $110 billion annually to the country’s gross domestic product.

Agri-Food Immigration Pilot: Eligible occupations

The occupations and industries eligible under the Agri-Food Immigration Pilot include:

• meat processing
  • retail butcher
  • industrial butcher
  • food processing laborer
• harvesting laborer for year-round mushroom production and greenhouse crop production.
• general farm worker for year-round mushroom production, greenhouse crop production, or livestock raising.
• farm supervisor and specialized livestock worker for meat processing, year-round mushroom production, greenhouse crop production or livestock raising.

Canada Family Sponsorship

If you are Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada you can sponsor certain relatives to come to Canada if you’re at least 18 years old. Your relatives can live, study and work in Canada if they become permanent residents of Canada. 

Spousal Sponsorship– The Canadian government allows Canadian citizens and permanent residents who are in a relationship with a foreign national to sponsor that person to join them and become a permanent resident of Canada. You can sponsor your spouse, common-law partner, or conjugal partner.

Sponsorship of a spouse in Canada involves a commitment to provide financial support to the sponsored person, including any dependent children. As a sponsor, you will be required to sign an undertaking that promises to provide for the basic needs of the sponsored person.

Dependent Child Sponsorship- The program allows Canadian citizens and permanent residents to bring their children from abroad to Canada as permanent residents. The main purpose of the sponsorship of dependent children, which is offered through the Family Class sponsorship, is to enable family members who reside in different countries to be reunited and live together in Canada.

Children sponsored through the Family Class of immigration receive Canadian permanent residence. This includes the right to study and work in Canada.

Parents and Grandparents Program- Canadian citizens and permanent residents are able to sponsor their parents and grandparents to immigrate to Canada. Parents and grandparents approved under this program receive Canadian permanent residence and may eventually be able to apply for Canadian citizenship.

Your parents and grandparents can enjoy the full benefits of Canadian permanent residence including being able to work in Canada, obtain health care, get full protection under Canadian law and the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and apply to become a Canadian citizen once they meet the eligibility criteria.
